UK_Karte_Japan

Based on our own experience and the many tips we have received from enthusiastic holidaymakers, it is our pleasure to present to you the most spectacular highlights of Japan!

Day 1 – 2: Convenient travel to Tokyo

World metropolis Tokyo

We fly comfortably overnight to Tokyo, Japan‘s capital, and arrive there on the second day. We are warmly welcomed at the airport by our friendly, English-speaking cultural tour guide. Afterwards, we travel in our modern, air-conditioned travel coach to our comfortable hotel, where we will spend the first three nights. The rest of the day is at our leisure for an initial tour of Tokyo.

Day 3: World metropolis Tokyo with Meiji Shrine Memorial, Ginza & Kannon Temple

Meiji Shrine, Tokyo

Today, the cosmopolitan city of Tokyo with all its facets is on the agenda. We first reach the Meiji Shrine by bus. The memorial is nestled in an expansive park with an evergreen forest featuring 365 different species of trees. It symbolizes the strong connection of the imperial family with Japan‘s ancient nature religion. In the Shinjuku district, the world‘s tallest city hall adds a special architectural touch. During a stroll through the upscale district of Ginza, we subsequently enjoy the flair of the elegant boutiques. Now we mingle with the faithful in the traditional district of Asakusa at the Kannon Temple. The Buddhist sanctuary is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy.

Day 4: Explorer Day – Kamakura with Hasedera Temple and Great Buddha & Fuji-Hakone National Park

Fuji-Hakone National Park with Mount Fuji (World Heritage)

Today, we are delighted to take you on a magical, optional full-day excursion to Kamakura and the world-famous Fuji-Hakone National Park. In Kamakura, on the beautiful Pacific coast, we will visit the remarkable Hasedera Temple. We will admire the famous Kannon statue, carved from camphor wood and adorned with gold leaf. At a height of 30 ft, it is the largest of its kind in Japan. The picturesque Hasedera Temple also houses the ‘Guardian Deities of Unborn Children’ and the impressive Great Buddha. We then proceed to the enchanting Fuji-Hakone National Park with its five lakes. In good weather, we will take a picturesque boat tour, offering a magnificent view of the volcanic peak Mount Fuji (UNESCO World Natural Heritage) on clear days.

Day 5: Nikko National Park and temple district (UNESCO World Heritage) with Taiyuin Temple & Nagano

Nikko (World Heritage)

Our glorious day starts with a bus ride towards Nikko, which is one of the highlights of our cultural tour. Framed by the scenic beauty of the Nikko National Park, an extensive shrine and temple district (UNESCO World Heritage Site) spreads out in the hilly surroundings of the town of Nikko. The national park captivates with its breathtaking mountain landscape, roaring waterfalls, and picturesque lakes. We visit the magnificent Taiyuin Temple (admission included) and are impressed by the countless creations of woodcarving art at Toshogu (admission included). Then we head to Nagano, the site of the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Day 6: Jigokudani Monkey Park, Yamanouchi Springs, Shirakawago (UNESCO World Heritage) & Japanese Alps

Jigokudani Monkey Park

Today, we begin with the fascinating Jigokudani Monkey Park (admission included) at the hot springs of Yamanouchi. Here, with a bit of luck, we can watch the wild native snow monkeys bathing up close. During a walk through the picturesque village of Shirakawago (admission included), which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we admire the thatched farmhouses. We are offered a wonderful setting with multi-story, robust buildings and their steep roofs. Nowhere else can you experience the old Japan more beautifully and impressively than here. In the evening, we reach Takayama at the foot of the Japanese Alps and enjoy the panorama of the over 9,800 ft high mountain range.

Day 7: Takayama, Nara (UNESCO World Heritage) with Todaiji Temple, largest Buddha in the world & Nara Park

Todaiji Temple, Nara (World Heritage)

The charming Takayama has retained much of its architectural charm from the past. We visit the old provincial government building (admission included), which offers interesting insights into everyday culture and society under the Tokugawa shogunate. We stroll through the old town with sake breweries and picturesque streets. We then proceed to Nara, Japan‘s first capital, from which it was permanently governed. It is considered the cradle of Japanese culture, is a unique UNESCO World Heritage Site, and impresses with the ‘Daibutsu’, the largest Buddha in the world. The Buddha statue stands in the famous Todaiji Temple (UNESCO World Heritage, admission included) and rises an incredible 53 ft high. The imposing temple is also one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. In addition, many other temples and shrines in the area have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Afterwards, we observe tame deer in the natural Nara Park. In spring, the world-famous cherry blossoms enchant us here. Our cultural tour now takes us to Kyoto, where we will enjoy a comfortable stay for the next two nights.

Day 8: Explorer Day – Imperial City Kyoto (UNESCO World Heritage) including Ryoanji Temple

Kyoto (World Heritage)

The former imperial city of Kyoto, with its abundance of magnificent cultural treasures, is a highlight of our journey. As part of a fascinating optional day trip, you will explore this unique UNESCO World Heritage Site with its numerous temples and Shinto shrines. A turbulent history has left the city with its unique cultural heritage. You will visit the fabulous Ryoanji Temple (UNESCO World Heritage) with its famous Zen garden, as well as the charming site of the Golden Pavilion. Afterwards, we explore the beautiful Fushimi Inari Shrine, whose seemingly endless shrine gate galleries invite you to take a walk. We also discover the vibrant Shijo-Karawamachi district and the traditional Kyoto market street. As a highlight, we experience the Kiyomizu Temple, located high above Kyoto, from whose panoramic terrace there is a magnificent view over the city.

Day 9 – 10: Himeji with the ‘White Heron Castle’ (UNESCO World Heritage) & homeward journey

Himeji (World Heritage)

On the 9ᵗʰ day, another highlight awaits us. We drive to Himeji to visit the ‘White Heron Castle’ (admission included). The largest and most beautiful castle in Japan from the 17ᵗʰ century shines in all its glory. It is rightfully a special UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is surrounded by a beautiful park (admission included). Afterwards, we return to Kansai Airport Island. From there, we bid farewell to the magic of the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’. With beautiful, unforgettable memories in our luggage, we happily land back home on day 10.

Country specific safety advice:

Japan is the country on Earth with the most earthquakes per year and also has the highest number of active volcanoes. On average, around 1,500 tremors are seismically recorded annually. Southern and western Japan are frequently hit by typhoons in late summer. Travellers during this period are advised to observe the Foreign Office’s information on hurricanes abroad. The crime rate in Japan is low. Petty crime such as pickpocketing does occur in larger cities and at tourist locations. Smoking in Japan is generally prohibited on the street outside designated smoking areas.

Special criminal provisions:

Drug offences, in particular the illegal importation of drugs and stimulants, such as ‘Ecstasy’, are punished with long prison sentences. The Japanese law enforcement authorities also prosecute the possession of small amounts of illegal drugs.

Medical information:

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC – https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries) on the Travel HealthPro website. Each country-specific page has information on vaccine recommendations, any current health risks or outbreaks, and factsheets with information on staying healthy abroad. Prior to travelling, seek personal advice from travel health advisory centres, tropical or travel medicine specialists, and adjust your vaccination protection accordingly.

Medical care:

Medical care in Japan is comparable to Europe and poses no technical, equipment-related or hygienic problems. Although a number of Englishspeaking doctors are available in the major cities, communication with other doctors can be extremely difficult. Many hospitals only treat foreign patients if payment is made in advance.
You are urgently recommended to take out travel health insurance for the duration of your holiday which covers risks not assumed by the statutory health insurance companies (e.g. repatriation to the UK in the event of illness, treatment by private doctors or in private hospitals)
.

Customers must ensure that they are in good physical and mental health in line with the trip in question. Customers must enquire about the physical mobility and psychological autonomy required for this trip.
